Value of Summer
Summer is my favorite season of the year! I find myself being the happiest when the weather is warm and the sun is out. The days are longer, and the people around me are full of life. I have the most energy in the middle months of year, and enjoy exploring and try new things around me. This summer I have found myself pushing my comfort zone which you think would drain my energy, but has actually fueled me. I have surrounded myself with wholesome people that do not drain my social battery, they fill it. Spending time with friends and family in the sun has allowed my soul to charge and feel genuine happiness.
I have found that the things I loved doing as a child, are the things that make me feel my best self as an adult. Whenever you feel lost, think back on what little things brought you joy as a child. They are often the same things that bring you joy as an adult. I joined a coed summer softball team, and I love it! I look forward to being in a competitive environment every week. When I was younger I was the same way. I played many sports, so it is no surprise that I would like it as an adult. I have also been hiking lately and spending time in the high country which again is something I did when I was younger.
Being in nature and enjoying the mountains God carved for us grounds me and keeps me humble. I encourage you to find what fuels and and brings you energy in the gorgeous county we get to call home. Here are some of my favorite things to do this season.
Hit the TUCO Farmers Market
The most popular farmers market is downtown Sonora on Saturday mornings. You can be sure to find fresh produce, bread, hummus, flowers, and sweet treats. There is a special feeling I get when supporting local businesses, and walking home with foods that will nourish my body. You are sure to see a familiar face there, and it’s best to get there early to beat the heat.
Go to Twain Harte Miniature Golf Course
Mini Golf is the ultimate summer activity. It is a quick, inexpensive outing that puts smiles on everyone’s face.
Swimming in Pinecrest Lake
Pinecrest is the perfect place to spend a Saturday. There is plenty of beach frontage to lounge in the sand all day. The water is cool and calm which leaves you feeling revitalized and refreshed. There is a snack shack with delicious soft serve ice cream, and a place where you can rent boats for the day or fish. The hike around the lake is about 4 miles, and there is an outdoor movie amphitheater that has showings under the stars. Surely there is something for everyone in the family.
Try a New Restaurant
There are so many dining options in Tuolumne County. This is a great way to explore something you have never tried before, while sharing a meal with friends.
Catch a Fish
This is a challenge in itself, as well as a new hobby for many. If this is something you are interested in trying, Sonora Fly Co has a great staff that will help you get started and answer many questions you may have. There are tons of fishing holes in town and this will allow you to have fun outside, and hit some new hiking trails.
If you are reading this, I am challenging you to find joy this summer. We live in a beautiful area with so much to offer. If you are feeling lost or small minded, try out my summer bucket list. These are little things that bring me joy and I hope do the same for you. If these aren’t your style, than create your own bucket list! August is the “Sunday of Summer” and I am challenging you to slow down and soak up the last bits of the season before it burns past you.
